Keep the faith?

Keep the faith?

A quick transcript of a conversation between iBear and I this morning: Daddy: I’m going to love you forever and ever, iBear: yeah…. until you die, Daddy: (without thinking and a little bit stunned) no, even after that., iBear: yeah and then when I die we’ll see each other and be together again! The term can of worms is probably the most suitable here. When do you start talking to your four year old about this most taboo of subjects,…

Board Game Geeks – Assemble!

This weekend was the inaugural four way lads board game, beer and BBQ get together in Bristol– and it was Team Awesome! Graduation Day

Graduation Day

A Graduation ceremony? At her Nursery?  Give over! This was my response just over a year ago when friends of ours who had their child in the same nursery as us told us about what they were up to this week. However, after seeing their photos I was instantly a convert to the celebration and today it was our turn. iBear has been ridiculously excited for today for the best part of a week.  She’s been telling us that they’ve…

Training my future Olympian.

Training my future Olympian.

Every parent is allowed to have at least one ultimate dream that they hope for their child, right? If you ignore the standard, obvious stuff like being happy, having kids of their own, being in a settled stable relationship, good job etc etc and shoot for the moon what would you choose? Me? I’d love it if iBear became a gold medal winning Olympian! I don’t necessarily have a preference on which sport *coughs* athletics *coughs* I just know that…

The induction.

The induction.

Today iBear attended an induction session at her new school so she and some of the other kids could see what it was like. There’s 18 kids going up from the existing nursery and 10 including iBear coming in from 8 different local nurseries so it’s going to be a decent mix.   iBear was, I’m told, “bouncingly excited” before going and “quiet but smiley” as she walked through the gates into her new adventure. Play it cool lass, play it…

The guilt of discipline

The guilt of discipline

In an earlier post I wrote about the pleasure I get from having a lot of playtime with my daughter.  Every now and then though, things gets a little strained and it’s not all giggles and happiness. This morning was a stark reminder of how being a parent can transform your mood in an instant from a happy Dad playing with his daughter to a stroppy Dad exasperated by his daughters lack of capacity to listen and understand. We’d had…

Sofia the last!

Sofia the last!

One thing that has become apparent to us over the last few months is how much of a sensitive soul iBear is and we had a major emotional incident a couple of weeks ago which highlighted this. iBear had been spending the day with her grandparents (G&G Monday) and had been watching a couple of episodes of Sofia the first, the princess cartoon on the Disney channel.  During the episode “buttercups” Sofias friend touches a plant, the Meddlesome myrtle,…

Stay where I can see you.

Stay where I can see you.

I try and get out with a friend fairly regularly for a pint or two. During these ‘sessions’ (max 6 pints, chip shop then bed and two day hangover – stupid middle age) our conversation usually involves some chatter about our daughters.  His is 5 years older than iBear and I therefore pay a lot of attention to his various stories knowing that I will inevitably experience the things he tells me about at some point. One such conversation came…

Excuse me. Will you play with me?

Excuse me. Will you play with me?

This is four year old iBear…. She’s mine. I love her more than words can say and she’s the main reason I wanted to start this blog. Becoming a Dad is without a doubt the best thing that has ever happened to me.  I love everything about it. I always knew I would. From the second she was born I was totally head over heels in love and it would be near impossible to start describing all my experiences (ups as well as downs) in…
