The Versatile Blogger Award
A few weeks ago ThreeTimeDaddy nominated me for this prestigious award. I remember feeling incredibly honoured and a little bit tired. I am a parent after all. It had always been my intention to take up the challenge of presenting to you, dear reader, some “interesting” facts about myself but life has been getting in the way of my writing recently. I mostly blame the National Lottery for this and their inability to pick out my numbers.
Fast forward to today and another nomination comes through twitter from the lovely Amanda at Frombabies2toddlers. This has forced my hand somewhat. I am now accountable to two people and I can feel the pressure.
The challenge
The Versatile Blogger Award has two rules:
- Write 7 intersting facts about myself
- Nominate 15 others who will hopefully accept the award and take on the challenge
I’ll let you be the judge as to whether the following qualifies as “interesting”…..
7 Interesting facts
1) I went to Las Vegas alone for a 30th birthday treat. This isn’t quite as sad as it sounds….. The plan was for me and my best mate to go there for a few days as a joint birthday trip. We’d been planning it for around 18 months. My girlfriend (now wife!) was cool about it, she’s amazing like that. My mate had been with someone but was now single. To cut a long story short he struck up a long distance relationship and they decided to get married meaning he had no money for our trip! I thought about it and decided to go anyway, which was a big deal for me as I used to be pretty shy. What an awesome experience it was too! And as happy endings go we’re both still friends, he married the girl and we both now have daughters!
2) I once chipped a tooth trying to untie a little screw on a curtain pole. I like to think of myself as fairly intelligent but there are times I just have to shake my head at myself.
3) I went to my cousins 10th birthday party when I was 20. Family is very important to me, always has been. When my cousin was born a few days before my 10th birthday I promised him that I would come to his 10th birthday party. Everyone laughed this off but I kept that promise. My 20 year old self had a brilliant time battling all those 10 year olds in the local Laserquest and the story is still brought up to this day, more than 20 years on.
4) As a youngster wandering around the supermarket I asked my Mam one of those burning questions that has plagued mankind and that I was sure I knew the answer to. “Mam…Is Mince an animal”? Turns out I was wrong. Another query around this time was about the film Clash of the Titans. I wanted to know who Clash was….
5) Staying with my younger (sportier) self I finished 99th out of 500 in my first ever fun run aged around 11, which included actual adults! I thought that was pretty good? I was junior school Connect 4 champion and constant runner up in the Comprehensive school chess tournaments. One at time, ladies.
6) I got a ticket to the mens 100m final at the London Olympics. Going to the Olympics has always been a lifelong dream so when London was awarded them I made it my mission to get tickets. I was on that ticket site for ages refreshing and through a massive stroke of luck managed to grab a ticket for my favourite event. I can now say “I was there”.
7) I’ve been dog sledding in the Artic Circle. It was an excursion as part of a Norwegian holiday my wife and I went on for her 30th birthday. You’ve never seen cute until you’ve seen my wife cuddle a husky puppy as it licks her chin!
So there you go. I hope you find those facts interesting. I certainly enjoyed reminiscing about them as I was writing them! Make sure you give my nominators (is that even a word?) above a follow on Twitter – ThreeTimeDaddy and Amanda.
Nominations!
Over to you guys on twitter. Apologies if you’ve already done this or have no interest. Don’t hate me, hate the system.
Footnote: I know there’s only 10 names above. Move along. Nothing to see here. Show’s over etc…..
