KaffeeHaus Amadeus – anyone for coffee?
I’m quite partial to a tea room / café visit. It’s one of the things I’d imagine myself doing a lot if I were ever to be lucky enough to enjoy an early retirement. Today my wife and I had a day off together. After dropping our daughter off at school we searched for a good place to go and have brunch, which is my favourite meal time. Kaffeehaus Amadeus came up on a google search and wasn’t too far a drive away. So we thought we’d go and check it out.
Best brunch ever
Located in Lanchester, County Durham, Kaffeehaus Amadeus is a small Austrian and German themed coffee house with enough room to seat around 20 visitors. As we walked in we were given a warm greeting and shown to a vacant table. They presented us with the menus and also a glass of water each. It didn’t take us long to decide on our food. The Farmers breakfast: scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, bacon, tomato and onions. Accompanying this was a slice of seeded bread, gherkin, lettuce and tomato. The waiter, who was very knowledgeable about his coffee, recommended an India blend filter pot which was full bodied with minimal acidity. Sounded amazing. And it was….
I can honestly say it’s one of the nicest brunch type meals I’ve tasted. Everything was cooked to perfection and the coffee complimented the meal well. By the time we finished the café was full but at no point did we feel rushed. The other visitors all seemed nice and it gave the whole place a very relaxed atmosphere. Dog lovers are welcome and we sat next to a very friendly three year old whippet which was exceptionally well behaved.
Dessert time
KaffeeHaus Amadeus pride themselves on a unique coffee experience and they were a number of coffee style desserts to choose from. One that caught our eye, literally as someone had one a couple of tables across from us, was their signature drink – the KaffeeHaus-Amadues. Double espresso with cream, a dollop of vanilla ice cream and a chocolate button. Served with a small choice of truffle on the side:
Again, this was delicious! A perfect sized treat to finish off our meal. KaffeeHaus Amadeus sell the coffees and the truffle to go so I bought a bag of the India blend beans. Writing this now, I’m regretting not also buying a bag of the truffles!
It was time to go and settle the bill which we did at the counter. Including the beans we paid around £40. This may seem a little expensive to some for what was a light meal followed by a small “dessert” for two but the quality was second to none and completely worth the money.
OneDads(Re)view
The fact that our visit to KaffeeHaus Amadeus is the first time I’ve been prompted to write a review post on my blog speaks volumes for our visit there. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Bernhard and Anna, the owners, were very friendly and accommodating. They clearly have a passion for their business. The environment was warm and friendly and we’ll definitely be returning in the future. My choice of a filter coffee pot followed by a double espresso was on reflection maybe a bit too much caffeine in one go perhaps. But I do love my coffee. Maybe a calmer loose leaf style tea is called for next time…..
Footnote: I’m aware the photos are a little blurry and don’t quite do the food and drink justice. I’ll be looking to improve on this in a future edit.

i love my coffees, but tend to prefer the big chains, however a cuppa tea can’t be beaten in an independent cafe #triumphanttales
I love a good coffee to help with the old sleep deprivation 😉 X #twinklytuesday
